Brian Shaw is an American Professional Strongman competitor and a four time World’s Strongest Man winner. Shaw is the only person to ever win all of the following competitions: World’s Strongest Man, Arnold Classic Strongman and America’s Strongest Man. Standing at 6’8” and weighing over 400 pounds/180 KG, he is also one of the largest athletes in the world.
Brian was born and raised in the small town of Fort Lupton, Colorado. He was born to parents that gave him a jump on being much larger than average size. His parents Jay and Bonnie Shaw both came from families with size and, without a doubt, that size was passed on to Brian. Brian has an older brother (Kevin) and a younger sister (Julie). Growing up with his older brother, especially, Brian always had to show his will to win and compete with his brother in everything imaginable. He showed from an early age his competitiveness and desire to win at everything and that would prove to carry over into all aspects of his life as he got older.
Brian had a goal from when he was young to earn a scholarship to play basketball in college. He had an uncle that was a basketball coach and that helped Brian along the way as he got older to excel at the game of basketball. Through all of his hard work and dedication, he was able to earn a scholarship to play in college at both Otero Junior College and Black Hills State University where he graduated with a degree in Wellness Management. Brian went on to pursue a career as a Strength and Conditioning Coach and passed his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification from the NSCA. He has since had the opportunity to work with different athletes at all levels and his passion for helping athletes to improve themselves has never changed.
After Brian finished playing basketball in college he shifted his focus to training harder and trying to get stronger. Without a competitive outlet something was missing and at this point Brian decided to enter a local Colorado Strongman competition without any formal strongman training. He won! From there he was hooked on Strongman and entered every competition he could, started training more specifically and began to build up his personal strongman equipment so he could train more specifically for the events. Brian set the goal of earning his pro card which he accomplished 7 months after his first contest. He then set the goal of becoming a good professional strongman and qualifying for his first World’s Strongest Man contest which he achieved in 2008. He then set his sights on winning the World’s Strongest Man which he achieved in 2011 and has been able to accomplish an additional 3 times in 2013, 2015 and 2016.
Brian currently lives in Brighton, Colorado with his wife Keri and son Braxton. Keri is a high school math teacher who also runs www.fitmommyacademy.com which is a website dedicated to helping mothers and women get into shape in the comfort of their home. Brian and Keri welcomed their first son Braxton to the world in 2016 and he has added so much to both of their lives. They enjoy spending time with each other and having as much fun with life as they possibly can.
